You'll be part of a safe, inclusive, alcohol- and drug-free atmosphere defined by genuine community spirit and care for one another. It's also one of the best ways to meet people and build friendships that last well beyond your college years.
We call them houses, not dorms — because the connections you'll make here tend to feel more like family. Each house has cozy living rooms, kitchens fully stocked with cooking tools, and rec rooms to hang out in. And your room? That's your space to make your own.
House Governance
Every house runs democratically, giving you a real-world, hands-on education in self-governance while building your leadership and citizenship skills.
- House Board — A peer-elected group that shapes house culture and organizes everything from social events to intramural sports and even recycling competitions.
- Resident Assistants (RAs) — Trained fellow students who are there to support first-year students, help you find your footing, and introduce you to campus life and values.
- Residential Coordinator (RC) — A dedicated staff member (many of them are certified life coaches) available to support you spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, and physically — and yes, often with snacks and baked goods
House Amenities
- High-speed Wi-Fi — free, so save your money for that streaming subscription
- Laundry facilities — also free, no quarters required
- Computer labs with free printing, plus quiet academic study rooms
- Cozy living rooms with fireplaces (marshmallow roasting, anyone?) and pianos
- Rec rooms with big-screen TVs — perfect for the big game or a movie night
- Full kitchens with refrigerators, microwaves, stovetops, and ovens for home-cooked meals

Housing for Traditional Students
Seven houses are split evenly between two quads (East and West), and each has its own vibe, culture, and traditions. There are both single-gender and co-ed options. Every house hosts its own activities and puts on at least one campus-wide social event each semester.
Each house has its own elected House Board and a live-in Residential Coordinator. At least one Residential Assistant (student) per house is dedicated to helping first-year students get to know Principia and hit the ground running.

Housing for Nontraditional Students
Non-traditional students — affectionately called "non-trads" — are students who are older than traditional college age. Most live in Williams, a cottage on Lilac Lane, though some choose to live in standard housing or off campus. Wherever non-trads live, they're fully plugged into everything campus life has to offer.
