The gatehouse officer is responsible for visitor management while the assigned shift officers conduct patrols, walkthroughs, and building security sweeps. Campus Security officers are also responsible for maintaining life safety equipment, conducting drills, acting as campus first responders for emergencies, enforcing traffic and parking regulations, responding to disturbances, and initiating and operating all emergency notification systems. 

Campus Security Officers are unarmed, non-sworn, and do not have law enforcement authority or the power to arrest. More than half the department has prior law enforcement or military experience, and all officers receive ongoing training and certification in: Ethics, Situational Response, Use of Force, Legal Responsibilities, Patrol Techniques, Crisis Intervention, ID Verification, Dealing with Difficult People, Fire Safety, First Aid, CPR, AED, and much more.

Crime Log Data

Principia College campus security will create, maintain, and make available to any person requesting the daily crime log during normal business hours. This Daily Crime Log will include the nature, date, time, general location of each crime that occurs within the institution’s Clery Geography, and the disposition of the complaint, if known. 

Principia will make an entry or an addition to an entry to the log within two (2) business days, as defined in 34 CFR 668.46(a), unless that disclosure is prohibited by law or would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim.
