Dr. Stephanie L. Lovseth

Dr. Stephanie Lovseth is Associate Professor of Sustainability and Educational Studies and Chair of the Educational Studies Department at Principia College. She joined the Educational Studies Department in 2018 and has served in a variety of leadership roles connected to international and experiential education at Principia College since 2010. Her work has included strategic development and support for study abroad programming, global learning initiatives, and interdisciplinary educational experiences that connect students to complex social, cultural, and environmental issues.

With over a decade of experience in higher education, Lovseth’s teaching, scholarship, and leadership focus on the intersections of sustainability education, educational leadership, culturally responsive practice, experiential learning, and social change. She is particularly interested in how systems thinking, critical reflection, intercultural learning, and relational leadership can support more just, compassionate, and resilient communities.

As a professor, researcher, and consultant, Lovseth has worked in leadership development, team and culture-building, organizational learning, and transformative education. Her teaching is grounded in a commitment to critical thinking, reflective practice, equity-focused education, and multidimensional student engagement. She is passionate about empowering students, educators, and organizations to thoughtfully navigate complex challenges while fostering critical hope, inclusion, and meaningful change.

Lovseth’s professional and scholarly experi>ences include work in outdoor and environmental education, international and comparative education, sustainability and climate communication, and higher education leadership. She has also studied and worked internationally, including in the United Kingdom, India, Nepal, Vietnam, St. Lucia, and New Zealand.
