Climate, Culture, and Change in the Himalayas
Explore the realities of climate change in Nepal while engaging directly with communities adapting to a rapidly changing world.
Spend four weeks in the Himalayas examining the impacts of climate change in the village of Lubra and the surrounding Mustang region. Witness how environmental shifts—from intensified monsoons to glacial melt—are transforming landscapes, livelihoods, and ways of life.
Through an interdisciplinary approach, you’ll explore the connections between climate change and environmental justice, development, conservation, and cultural change. Coursework includes drawing (no prior experience required) alongside studies in society and sustainability, helping you interpret and respond to what you observe.
Beyond the classroom, you’ll walk the land, engage with local residents, and gain insight into how communities are actively shaping their futures in the face of ongoing change. This experience challenges you to consider not only global issues, but your role in addressing them.
Open to students of all majors, this program invites you to learn directly from people and places at the frontlines of climate transformation.
