Dr. Christine Elliott comes to Principia College with teaching experience both in the US and abroad. Elliott taught English for academic purposes for several years in Laos and Vietnam and has also worked in English as a Second Language programs at the University of Maine, University of Wisconsin, and most recently the University of Delaware English Language Institute’s Academic Transitions Program. Working in the Writing Center, Elliott continues to help students develop their academic reading and writing through writing courses, one-on-one appointments and group programming. Elliott became interested in teaching through her own experiences as a language learner. Experiences in college as a volunteer tutor led to an interest in studying English as a Second Language and opportunities to teach English to multilingual learners in a variety of settings in the US and abroad.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO FIELD

Elliott served as an English Teaching Fellow at the National University of Laos (then Dong Dok Teacher Training College) in the early 1990s as Laos was slowly reopening to the West. Many years later she returned to the same institution to conduct her doctoral research focusing on the literacy practices of Lao university students
