Majors and Minors

Principia College offers 25 different majors. Some have a single focus like English or physics. Others are interdisciplinary like environmental studies and global perspectives. You can also get a minor in most areas that offer a major, along with a few special minors.

Small classes and a genuine interest in teaching allow faculty members to establish close relationships with their students. Both in the classroom and during office hours (which are generous compared to most places), students get face time with professors, not teaching assistants. But the office isn’t the only place for one-on-one interaction. There’s the Pub, the pathways, the library, athletic events . . . you name it.

In addition, many professors sponsor clubs and lead overseas trips and field programs. They also serve as advisors, mentors, and role models. And the real difference: at Principia, professors view each student as unlimited, with equal opportunity and ability, reflecting God’s intelligence and strength. Every student is given opportunities to shine in a wide variety of activities.

All my teachers have been outstanding, really excellent in their field. And getting to have a one-on-one relationship with each one is important. They really care about what you’re doing and want to help you. That’s an important aspect of the sense of community here.
