Campus was full of excitement in mid-August as 91 new students arrived to cheers from the Dean of Admissions, staff, and faculty. As part of the 2024–25 academic year, the College kicked off a new tradition called Panther Week. This newly designed, robust orientation week introduced Principia’s incoming freshmen and transfer students to the College’s community and culture. Culminating with a retreat, it set the tone for the year ahead.
Panther Week launched a comprehensive orientation experience designed to integrate new students into campus life. The week-long program included activities to help smooth students’ transition into college life. Students met faculty members, explored academic programs, and engaged with the Academic Advising Office, all while taking part in events designed to build community and foster connections.
The week concluded with the “Skills for Bridging the Gap” retreat held at CedarS Camps in Lebanon, Missouri. Designed by Interfaith America and led by Spiritual Life Program Director and College Chaplain, Roger Gordon, the retreat featured interactive workshops focused on Principia values. Students also enjoyed a range of recreational activities including arts and crafts, sports, swimming, kayaking, archery, zip-lining, and horseback riding.
This year’s new students hail from 10 different countries and 19 U.S. states, bringing a broad spectrum of backgrounds and experiences. Also, 65 of the new students will play a sport and contribute to the strength of our athletic programs.
Overall, Principia’s newest tradition was met with enthusiasm, setting up a solid foundation for a successful academic year. “It was a 10 out of 10 experience,” said freshman Keza Saro Keza (US’24). “It was thorough, and I feel like I have plenty of pointers for life in college.”
