Make Your Mark

We’re small and mighty. Seriously mighty. When you know the whole community is behind you, giving your all takes on added meaning, and victories reverberate. Here are a few of the successes we’ve celebrated over the last several years.

100 Congressional Awards

Since 2009, the Principia College student body has included 100 Congressional Award winners, including 16 Gold Medals.

Congressional Award winners fulfill challenging personal goals in public service, personal development, fitness, and expedition/exploration. Awards (both certificates and medals) may be earned at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels.

#1 Nationally

Principia’s rugby team won the Division II Rugby 7s National Championship in 2013.

Our solar car team took first place in the 2001 Formula Sun Grand Prix.

#1 Internationally

For two years running (2014 and 2015), Principia’s mediation team won first place in Team Advocacy at the International Intercollegiate Mediation Tournament.

In the 2013 inaugural Dubai Invitational Mediation Tournament, Principia won first place in Team Advocacy, along with an Outstanding Newcomer award.

31 All-American Titles Since 2000

13 All-Americans in mediation
9 one-time All-Americans in cross country, soccer, swimming, and track
2 two-time All-Americans in cross country and track
1 three-time All-American in cross country
1 four-time All-American in pole vault

2015 Fulbright Award Winner

Heidi Katz (C’14) won a 2015–2016 Fulbright U.S. Student Award to study education in Finland. Following that award, she received additional Fulbright funding to research education in Cameroon.

Solar Car Team Competes Globally

The Principia College solar car team regularly competes around the world—from Australia to Abu Dhabi. Principia captured the Bronze Medal in Greece in 2004 and has won seven safety awards since 1997. This year, the team placed 2nd in the formula sun Grand Prix and won the Electrical design award.

Masters of Code Finalists

Principians won first place out of 20 teams at the 2015 MasterCard Masters of Code competition in St. Louis, qualifying them to compete in Silicon Valley, where 12 teams from around the world faced off in the Grand Finale.
