POLITICAL SCIENCE
Inside Sales Representative, Dallas Stars

“It was amazing!”

That’s how Stephen sums up his experience working as an intern at the Dallas Stars, a professional hockey team in Texas. His role as an inside-sales representative had him working in the front office and selling ticket plans among team executives and former players.

“The thing I like about sales is that you’re talking to real people. No call is the same—everyone you’re talking to is like a different puzzle,” Stephen says.

Stephen generated nearly $15,000 in new business for the Stars that summer and credits his success to the effective communication skills he gained in his political science classes at Principia. He’d also leaned on the support of his advisors and the Career Center to secure his internship with the Stars.

“Principia made everything work for the Stars,” he adds.

Having attended a large public high school and feeling “tired of being a number,” Stephen was drawn to a smaller school experience where he could get to know everyone and have the ability to be a starting player on the baseball team.

“At Principia you realize that you have value, and you can translate that into the professional world,” says Stephen.

In addition to playing baseball, Stephen was president of the golf club, assistant coach of the women’s lacrosse club, and participated in student government and a musical.

“That’s the thing about Principia. I could literally do whatever I wanted to,” Stephen adds.
