GLOBAL STUDIES, POLITICAL SCIENCE
Research and Marketing Intern, Read to Rise

Noah’s appreciation for Principia stems from his ability to become creative about what’s possible at the College.

“You can do so much at Principia. If you have an idea of something you want to do, you can bring it up and there will be support to make it a reality,” says Noah.

One way he put this into practice was to arrange his internship during an academic semester, which allowed Noah to take advantage of other global-travel opportunities while still graduating on time.

“It’s a credit to the liberal arts nature of Principia where you have the freedom to plan your academic schedule,” he adds.

It was his South African history course that inspired Noah to intern in Cape Town, South Africa, where he supported Read to Rise’s work in bringing books to economically challenged township families. His role required research, development, and production, which included finding best practices for a non-government organization (NGO), marketing, fundraising, and producing a film.

Noah relied on his global studies courses, which taught him to think of new ways to approach the challenges within the organization. He was in touch with his academic advisor throughout the internship and had worked with the Career Center to apply a research grant to his work.

“It was just a great experience,” Noah says.

Back on campus, Noah was a director for the International Perspectives Conference, student manager for the social assistant team, and played in the Principia orchestra and string quartet.
