Luke McCutcheon (C’21)

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, ECONOMICS
Intern, Christian Science Practitioner Activities Department at The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston

When asked to share advice for incoming college students, Luke says, “Find what you love and share it. If it’s meaningful to you, it’s surely meaningful to someone else.” It was Luke’s appreciation for Christian Science that led him to support others through a meaningful internship with the Christian Science Practitioner Activities Department at The First Church of Christ, Scientist.

Luke attended the Principia College career fair where he met with Church representatives and scheduled an interview for an upcoming summer internship. He then worked with the Career Center to refine his résumé.

Although the internship was remote due to COVID, Luke was able to make a considerable impact. Along with supporting the department through research, communication, and administrative duties, his key role was guiding Christian Science Journal-listed Practitioners in creating their own professional websites. Luke assessed the best web-building platform and produced a guided video of the process, which his manager used for her own website. He relied on his courses at Principia to apply a business perspective to his work while undergirding it with a metaphysical approach.

“I can’t stress enough how much Principia has prepared me for going out into the world,” he adds.

Luke had left the public school system because it wasn’t rigorous enough to meet his appetite for learning. After years of homeschooling, he attended Principia Upper School where he immersed himself in an abundance of school activities.

Luke has served as a house president and admissions ambassador and was a member of both the Plus 1 Acapella club and the baseball team. He also attended the Israel, Jordan, Palestine Abroad.
