As women’s soccer coach, sport studies faculty, athletics director and Dean of Admissions, Lee Ellis has made many contributions to Principia over the past 28 years. Women’s soccer teams (1996–2010) under his tutelage were continually recognized for academic achievement, ethical and sportsperson-like conduct, and individual and team honors, while winning 70% of their games. From 1999–2007, Ellis chaired the sport management program. He served as Faculty President in 2000. Serving as Athletic Director from 2008–2017, Ellis expanded and renovated facilities, improved services, added staff and programming, and implemented new management practices. As Dean of Admissions from January 2022-July 2023, Ellis led an admission team that increased new student paid deposits by nearly 17%!  Currently, Ellis chairs the Sport Studies program while continuing to assist in various capacities coaching girls’ soccer at the Principia School.

Prior to Principia, Ellis started and directed the athletics program at SUNY Poly, in Utica, New York, where he also coached men’s soccer, women’s basketball, and softball. Ellis also has 15 years of executive experience in sales and marketing.

I was led to coaching and teaching by the desire to help others achieve extraordinary things, the opportunity to keep learning, and the excitement that comes from the 'aha' moments.
