All first-time college students participate in this intensive week long seminar, which introduces academic discourse through a selection of short but provocative texts. The focus in class is on understanding the relationship between writing and thinking through practicing a wide variety of generative strategies when writing in response to the readings. During this week, you will work closely with the other students and the instructor in your section. All of the sections come together once for a Writers’ Forum—a time for students to share a piece of their writing with each other and guests. You will submit a final portfolio of revised pieces from the seminar, which will then be made available to your First Year Experience (FYE) teacher.
