"My professors at Principia and in graduate school modeled mathematical habits of thought that have helped me find success in technical ventures and in navigating our technical society. I want to train young people to think and reason deductively with precision and confidence, and to communicate their conclusions with clarity."

Dr. Andrew Parker came to Principia after several years as a civilian in the Department of Defense, where he applied mathematical thinking and methods to solve technical problems encountered in the defense industry. At Principia, he has taught many courses in mathematics, including algebra, precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, advanced applied calculus, numerical analysis, statistics, discrete mathematics, complex variables, and proof writing. Parker has also taught seminar courses in special topics such as topology, cryptography, and fractals and chaos.

Scholarly Interests

While Parker sustains an interest in applied mathematics and dynamics, he has recently been reading works on the philosophy of mathematics.

Contributions to Field

  • Published several internal papers and delivered presentations at several internal technical conferences for the Department of Defense
  • Delivered an invited address at a regional conference
  • Sponsored research presentations by Principia students
  • Judged student presentations at a national mathematics conference
