Writing Center

Experience has shown that strong writing skills will take you far in life, whether it’s through an advanced degree or into a successful career, or whether it simply affords you the everyday luxury of being able to express yourself with clarity, precision, and style. Possessing strong writing skills is a huge part of being a well-educated person.

Our Writing Center and staff of writing tutors will take a great deal of time, effort, and care to ensure that you have all the practical and technical skills you need in order to make and articulate the important connection between what you’re reading, thinking, and writing. After all, in order to do well in your classes, you’ve got to be able to clearly demonstrate that you understand and value the material you’re studying. Being a good writer is one of the most effective ways to show that you’ve taken ownership of your education.

There’s a two week Writing Seminar when you first arrive on campus. Whether you’re highly practiced and skilled or someone who’s ready to gain more experience, this seminar will meet you where you are and help you become a more versatile and effective thinker and writer. The seminar offers a wide range of reading and writing experiences—creative, analytical, reflective, and experimental—designed to help you use writing as a powerful tool in deepening and focusing thought and in communicating with others.

Once classes are in session, the Writing Center is open during the day Monday through Friday, and writing tutors are available in the Library every evening, Sunday through Thursday.

“I credit Prin with the fact that I can write a lot of pages and not be worried about it. Also the quality of writing that’s expected here is very high. Along with content, the professors focus a lot on your style of writing. They’re very serious about that.”
