After a hiatus and multiple interruptions to her competitive schedule, Principia College head women’s tennis coach and associate professor of physical education Shannon Carney won the 2023 USTA National Senior Women’s 65 Singles and Doubles Championships in October.

Regarded as a major pioneer of installation art, Judy Pfaff spoke to an audience of Principia students, alumni, and local community members about her journey from a childhood of minimal family support to becoming the world-renowned artist we know today.

In March, the Thunder Chickens rugby team took top honors in the Kansas City 7s tournament, clinching their spot in the 2024 Collegiate Rugby 7s Championship.

Many academics describe their sabbatical as rewarding. For Dr. Nicholas Johnson (C’04), Chair of the Sustainability Department, it was awarding as well. Johnson’s year-long sabbatical with the U.S. Department of Energy earned him the Secretary of Energy’s Achievement Award. Twice.

This year Principia sent four outstanding first-year delegates to the intercollegiate Model Illinois Government (MIG) simulation at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield, IL. MIG staff and faculty advisers were unanimously excited to have Principia back at MIG after being absent in 2023 and attending sporadically in the years previous.
