Libby Scheiern joined the faculty in 1999. Prior to coming to Principia College, Dr. Scheiern founded and served as head of a private school in California for six years. She served as chair of Principia’s Education Department for ten years and has served on numerous committees. Dr. Scheiern is currently Faculty Senate President, Co-Team Leader for Principia College’s Academy for Assessment of Student Learning Team with the Higher Learning Commission, and a board member at the Link School in Buena Vista, Colorado. She is also director of the Teaching Excellence Center.
Dr. Scheiern is an experienced educational consultant and has worked with adults, children, and teachers. Her diverse background and experience includes more than 30 years of teaching, curriculum development, and administration. Libby completed her doctoral work at the University of Illinois, Chicago in curriculum, instruction, and evaluation. Her research focused on the development of novice teacher identity. She has presented numerous workshops, including team-based learning, critical thinking, assessment of student learning, and curriculum and course design, and has co-authored a book chapter in The Handbook of Curriculum and Instruction.
