The W drive is the Writing Center’s network drive (writprog on ‘Es-filer-01’). This is where each student can find a folder just for them, where they drop portfolios and writing samples, and retrieve their writing evaluations. This is also where faculty portfolio readers can access and review students’ Phase 4 portfolio submissions.
Students have seven folders in their W: Drive folder -- one for each phase of the Writing Program to which they have both "drag and drop" and "read-only" access, a “Evaluations” folder where students can view writing and other portfolio evaluations (this folder is “read-only” for students), and a “Working Space" folder.
The “Working Space” folder:
In this folder, students can save any of their papers from the Writing Seminar and any other class. Students have both “Read” and “Write” access to this folder, so they can save papers here that are either final or works-in-progress, edit them, rename files, etc. (Note that while they can save writing files here, they cannot save downloads or other personal files to this folder.)
Please strongly encourage your students to use this Working Space folder as a place to store and work on any and all papers that they will be writing throughout their experience at Principia College. Papers saved on students’ personal computers are always in danger of being lost as a result of computer crashes. Because the W: drive is backed up several times a day, papers saved in the Working Space folder are safe for eternity. Click here to view and/or print out the "Your Dog Can't Eat the W Drive" handout explaining benefits of the Working Space folder to students.
