During these prep workshops, which take place the week before the Writing Seminar begins, Writing Seminar faculty will:

Become familiar with the goals, plan, schedule (i.e. First Day, Quiet Time, and Forums), resources, and expectations (Day 1)

Share and practice lesson plans/scripts—both short and long (Days 2 & 3)

Share any additional options for our anthology

Share inspiration
-
Plan and share ways to work with Peter Elbow’s “Teaching Two Kinds of Thinking by Teaching Writing”
-
Plan creative ways to introduce and practice editing skills as an indispensable part of producing final copies; distinguish informal/formal habits
-
Develop strategies for helping students transition to the demands of college writing
-
Discuss learning outcomes and assessment
-
Begin to plan scope and sequence of each instructor's seminar section

Solve problems and answer questions
-
Share plans for homework

Discuss teacher responses to portfolios
On their own, faculty will also:

Finalize plans for the seminar week

Duplicate the anthology selections they will use
-
Duplicate handouts they’ll need
-
Set up their seminar classroom
-
Make sure they have the equipment and supplies they'll need
-
Pick up their supply box, notebooks, style books, and pads of paper
