2011 Dates and Schedule

During these prep workshops, which take place the week before the Writing Seminar begins, Writing Seminar faculty will:

•  Become familiar with the goals, plan, schedule (i.e. First Day, Quiet Time, and Forums), resources, and expectations (Day 1)
• Share and practice lesson plans/scripts—both short and long (Days 2 & 3)
• Share any additional options for our anthology
• Share inspiration
• Plan and share ways to work with Peter Elbow’s “Teaching Two Kinds of Thinking by Teaching Writing”
• Plan creative ways to introduce and practice editing skills as an indispensable part of producing final copies; distinguish informal/formal habits
• Develop strategies for helping students transition to the demands of college writing
• Discuss learning outcomes and assessment
• Begin to plan scope and sequence of each instructor's seminar section
• Solve problems and answer questions
• Share plans for homework
• Discuss teacher responses to portfolios

On their own, faculty will also:

• Finalize plans for the seminar week
• Duplicate the anthology selections they will use
• Duplicate handouts they’ll need
• Set up their seminar classroom
• Make sure they have the equipment and supplies they'll need
• Pick up their supply box, notebooks, style books, and pads of paper
