Warchild—Help a Day in the Life
Listen live on Principia Internet Radio!
When Emmanuel Jal was 6 years old, he was torn from his family home, armed with an AK-47, and sent off to fight in Sudan’s bloody civil war. By the age of 13, he was already a veteran of two wars. After being rescued by a British aid worker, Jal began singing in an effort to promote peace in his war-torn country. His first album was released in 2005 and its title track quickly became a number one hit in Kenya. Since then, he has brought his hip-hop styled message of peace and reconciliation to concerts around the world, Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday party in London, delegates at the United Nations, and to the U.S. as part of the National Geographic All Roads Film Festival. Recently, Jal made a full-length documentary of his early experiences, and his new fundraising album, Warchild—Help a Day in the Life, was released in May 2008.
Tickets are $10.00 at the door for the general public and subject to available seating. The talk is free to Principia employees and students. No advance reservations are available.
