Advising/Registration

The opportunity to select classes that interest you is an exciting part of college. All freshmen and non-exempt transfers can select one of 7 First Year Experience (FYE) programs, each of which consists of three courses. Students can register for additional classes after speaking with their advisor and completing the advising process. Read the steps below for a more thorough understanding.

STEP 1: Introduction to Academic Advising
Start learning about Principia academics by viewing the welcome video from your advisor.  Then watch the online advising video, which will introduce you to general education, major, and other required courses you’ll need as you start your first term.  Advising videos must be watched before you can register or select an FYE program.

STEP 2:  FYE Information and Requests
The advising video includes a link to information about each FYE program.  Be sure to check them out!  All freshman and non-exempt transfers must select one of seven FYE programs, each of which consists of three courses. On May 24 at 8 pm (CDT), a link to the FYE request form in the advising video will go live, and those who have completed the videos will be ale to request their top three FYE choices. The request form will continue to be available throughout the summer, and FYEs will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Special Note: If you think you might major in music, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or education – these are “early starting” majors that require special attention.  As soon as you hear from your Advisor, be sure to tell them if you are interested in one of these majors.

STEP 3:  Registration
Registration for your other courses (non-FYE) opens June 7 at 8 pm (CDT) and will remain open until the end of the drop/add period.  You will register online in Self-Service Banner.  Please note: In order to register, you must have completed the advising process and obtained approval from your advisor.
