Learning Outcomes

Performance and Production Skills:

Students in the Department of Theatre and Dance will gain greater freedom of expression, confidence, and physical and vocal dominion through the development of performance and production skills.

Students will:

  • Demonstrate expressive and articulate use of  voice and/or body
  • Demonstrate growth as creative artists  through performance, improvisation, composition, and design
  • use technical and artistic disciplines to illustrate the intent of the author, choreographer, director, or designer

Thinking and Communication Skills:

Students in the Department of Theatre and Dance will synthesize, analyze, evaluate, and interpret works (both written and performed) from a variety of periods, styles, and cultures.

Students will:

  • analyze information needed for performance, design, or production
  • evaluate and critique their own and others’ performances or production-related responsibilities
  • use research and analysis skills to develop character, composition, and design in the disciplines of theatre, dance and production
  • articulate their vision of the artistic requirements of a production

Character, Spiritual Integrity, and Personal Growth:

Students in the Department of Theatre and Dance will demonstrate the God-centered, moral values of honesty, integrity, humility, and respect through interactions with others.  They will also grow in self-awareness, self-discipline, and self-reflection through the performance and production of great literature and dance.

Students will:

  • self-assess and communicate their spiritual and personal growth
  • express humility, honesty, integrity, respect for the needs of others, in classroom and production interactions
  • show responsibility for their actions and demonstrate over self-imposed limitations
  • understand and adhere to departmental and professional standards
  • put theory into practice through performance and production demands

Historical and Cultural Awareness: 

Students in the Department of Theatre and Dance will develop an awareness, appreciation, respect and understanding of their own and other cultures and historical periods through exposure to a variety of theatre and dance.

Students will:

  • demonstrate a breadth of knowledge of the historical and cultural traditions of drama and dance
  • articulate why the performing arts are important within our own and other cultures
  • share their passion for the performing arts with the community
