In 2011, eleven Principia students and three alums traveled to Lima, Peru for nine days to receive training in the Suzuki method of music instruction. Students were trained and certified to teach the first book of the Suzuki Method of music education on their specific instruments. This trip was led by Dr. Marie Jureit-Beamish, the Charles Stewart Harding Mott Distinguished Professor of Music. When not in music classrooms, the group enjoyed some of the wonderful Peruvian sights and sounds (see slideshow above).

Performing Arts in Europe (Spring 2013)

Dr. Marie Jureit-Beamish, professor of music, and Hilary Harper-Wilcoxen, assistant professor of dance, led this exciting study abroad trip, which explored European culture through the performing arts, particularly music, opera, and dance. Students developed a deeper understanding of and appreciation for how the performing arts have shaped culture in Paris and Vienna. Exposure to exceptionally high levels of artistic expression helped student gain understanding and insight into the role of the arts at the forefront of revolutionary thought.
