College Returning to Yellow Phase

November 24, 2020

John Williams
College President

There have been changes in our published Yellow status, based on current Illinois and Missouri guidelines. These changes include prohibiting gatherings and group activities involving more than 10 people, no off-campus employment for students living or studying on campus, and the Dining Room will be open but limited to 25 percent capacity.

Yellow status allows:

  • Students may go off campus but are encouraged only to do so if necessary.
  • Masks will be required in all shared spaces, in and out of the houses.
  • No social groups out of the house larger than 10 people, per Illinois’ updated Tier 3 guidelines.
  • Students will not need to wear a mask inside your house when you are around other house members; however, social distancing is still required.
  • Students may be allowed to visit friends in other houses in the rec rooms of those houses. Students still need to wear masks in the rec rooms, and there can be no more than 10 people in the rec room at a time.
  • Kitchens in the houses will be opened, with limited supplies available.
  • Students may visit with non-house friends outside or in shared indoor spaces (e.g. Howard Center, Voney, Crafton, Science Center, etc.) as long as social distancing is maintained and masks are worn.
  • Use of athletics facilities to be announced.
  • The interim policy sent to Principia employees on 10/27/20 for guests coming to employee residences in on-campus housing during the holidays remains in effect.
  • The policy for students regarding no personal visitors from off-campus remains in effect.
  • During the continued semester, starting 11/30, professional visitors to campus must continue to be reviewed by the COVID-19 planning committee, with at least 72-hours notice prior to the intended visit. Please contact Christina.Wilson@principia.edu to apply for having a visitor on campus. Only visitors who are visiting for educational purposes are considered.

As a reminder, per the Watercooler announcement regarding travel off campus, employees and students are asked to self-isolate after travelling out of the region or engaging with others who have not been following the social distancing and masking guidelines.

This status will be reviewed as needed based on campus or regional changes.

Thank you all for your support during these past few days. Reaffirming our metaphysical theme of the academic year, we are grateful to know and demonstrate that “. . . perfect love casteth out fear:” (I John 4:18).
