Guidance for Social Distancing On Campus
March 18, 2020
John Williams
Interim College President
While the College campus remains open for approved students and employees, we encourage those living on campus to exercise an abundance of caution to help minimize the exposure or spread of the coronavirus. The U.S. president has advised the entire country to not gather in groups of 10 or more and to minimize non-essential travel away from homes. We recognize that this is spring break, a well-deserved break from your normal daily routine, but ask you to please consider the following over the next few weeks.
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath), please call Cox Cottage immediately at 618-374-5000.
Travelling off campus:
- If you don’t NEED to go off campus, please stay on campus.
- Please consider not travelling into the city (Alton, Godfrey, St. Louis, Edwardsville, etc.) for gatherings.
- Restaurants in IL and MO are NOT open for dine-in, although restaurants may be open for drive-through or curb-side pick-up only. Call places before you go.
- Grocery stores have reduced their hours, so check before you go.
- Security will be registering all travel outside of Jersey County and the St. Louis region upon your return in case we are mandated to quarantine anyone.
Social Distancing:
- When gathering or congregating in shared spaces and rooms, limit to less than 10 people.
- Stay at least 6 feet away from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
- In the dining room, please space yourselves out so there are only a few people per table, and distance between each table.
In-House Practices:
- Keep your space clean – including desks, doorknobs, light switches, phones, etc.
- Wipe down surfaces, especially in the bathroom and kitchen, after you use them.
- Practice good hygiene (sneeze into a tissue or your elbow, don’t shake hands, wash your hands often).
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Recreation Facilities on Campus:
- College Pool – call for current hours of operation
- Crafton and Hay Field House – they are open and being disinfected daily
